About the Author
Brian Tomlinson is a Visiting Professor at Leeds Metropolitan University, UK. He has worked in Japan, Indonesia, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, the UK, Vanuatu and Zambia and has given presentations in over fifty countries. He is Founder and President of MATSDA and has published many articles and books on materials development and on language acquisition.

Great for specialists

This book makes an important addition to the insubstantial amount of literature on ELT materials design. In view of the necessity for ELT teachers to supplement textbooks or make their own materials to match the special needs of their students, such additions are to be welcomed. As with Tomlinson's other book on this topic, Materials development in language teaching, the theory of materials design is covered comprehensively and sensitively, given the important socio-cultural issues involved. If you are looking for a book that will ground you firmly in the necessary concepts and approaches, this book will be an excellent addition to your library. If you are looking for something that will provide a practical introduction for students and over-worked teachers, then perhaps you will have to produce your own instructional materials, using this book as a benchmark.
